Entering A Show... At first you thought all you had to do was just dress up and clean your dog and go to a show. ...but there is so much more and so often a "first timer" gets there and is totally bewildered. Here's a run-down of how it works: You can enter your dog at dog shows after it has attained the age of six months. If you have not yet registered the dog you will not be able to enter him UNLESS the registration is in the mail. So be sure that most important thing is taken care of. The same thing goes if you are a NEW OWNER and the dog is not yet registered in your name. You start with the premium list. Dog shows are put on by "dog show superintendents". They send out the little catalogs which list the upcoming show, who the judges will be, what the entries will cost (you NEVER make any money going to a show, you ALWAYS spend money!!) and hotel information and routes to the show and so on. These little "catalogs" are called "premium lists". (After you enter you will receive a "catalog" called a "judging program" which will tell you which judge will judge your breed and what time you will be expected at ringside.) It is possible these days to find such information online, just “google” it. You will find lists of all the dog shows being held in any region of the country at any one time. However, if you are not “computer savvy” and want up to date information, then the first thing to do is to get on the mailing lists of the dog show Superintendents. You can find their addresses on the internet and you can even request through email to be signed up on the mailing list. Furthermore you can look up the premium lists, upcoming shows, and judging programs on the internet also. The dog show superintendents in this country are as follows:
Jack Onofrio (covers most of the central United States)
Jack Bradshaw (covering Arizona and California)
Roy Jones (a.k.a. Sleeper Dog Shows)
You can enter almost any dog show online at Infodog You can also check out more information about showing at the American Kennel Club pages which have a lot of information about all of the dog sports at American Kennel Club Website
You can check with the breed clubs to enter SPECIALTY SHOWS
